Atsuta Shrine is a major Shinto shrine in Atsuta-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The site is traditionally said to have been established in the 2nd century and is regarded as one of Japan’s most important shrines.
The shrine precincts include a large main hall, multiple subsidiary shrines and a museum-like treasure hall with historical ritual objects. The complex is set in an extensive wooded area within the city and is used for formal Shinto ceremonies and seasonal festivals.
By tradition the shrine houses the sacred sword Kusanagi, counted among the Three Imperial Regalia of Japan. The shrine has been rebuilt and renovated repeatedly over centuries and has long-standing ties to the imperial household and regional authorities.

- Enter by the main torii and walk the cedar-lined approach; the moss and root patterns on the steps are centuries old and worth a slow look.
