How to Get to Atlixco
Atlixco is most easily reached by road from Puebla (Hermanos Serdán Airport, PBC) or via bus from Mexico City. There is no useful passenger rail; buses and colectivos are the normal way to arrive and move between nearby towns.
Hermanos Serdán International Airport (Puebla, PBC): Puebla airport is the nearest commercial airport to Atlixco. From PBC to Atlixco the drive is about 30-45 minutes by taxi or rental car; expect taxi fares roughly MXN 400-MXN 700. Shuttle services and private transfers are also commonly available.
Mexico City International Airport (MEX): Mexico City is a major international gateway. From MEX you can take an intercity bus to Puebla and then a local bus or colectivo to Atlixco-total travel time typically 2-3 hours (MEX→Puebla bus 2-2.5h, Puebla→Atlixco 45-90 min).
Train: There is no conventional passenger rail service linking Atlixco with Puebla/Mexico City; rail is not a practical option.
Bus / Colectivo: Regular buses and colectivos connect Atlixco with Puebla (Central de Autobuses de Puebla). Direct buses from Puebla to Atlixco take about 40-90 minutes depending on traffic; fares are commonly MXN 40-MXN 120. Intercity bus operators from Mexico City to Puebla run to Puebla’s bus terminal where you transfer to Atlixco services.
How to Get Around Atlixco #
Atlixco’s historic centre is compact and pleasant to explore on foot-especially around the zócalo and nearby streets. Local taxis and colectivos handle short hops; routes to nearby Puebla are frequent and inexpensive. Taxis are typically a few dozen pesos for short trips; bring sun protection for daytime wandering and comfortable shoes for cobbled streets.
