Arthur's Seat

Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcanic hill and the highest point in Holyrood Park, standing at 251 metres above sea level in central Edinburgh, Scotland. It forms a dominant natural landmark immediately adjacent to the historic city centre.

Trails of varying steepness lead to the summit and along the flanks, offering panoramic views across the Old and New Towns, the Firth of Forth and surrounding hills. Walks to the top are well used by locals and visitors and take typically 30 to 90 minutes depending on the chosen route.

The hill is a geological remnant of volcanic activity and has also featured in local human use for centuries, forming part of the royal park and recreational landscape. Its position above the Palace of Holyroodhouse and near the Royal Mile makes it unusually accessible for a major city summit.
