Armadale Castle is a largely ruined 18th/19th-century estate on the Sleat peninsula of the Isle of Skye, Scotland, incorporating castle ruins, gardens and a visitor museum. It forms the core of the Armadale estate and the island’s main clan heritage attraction.
The property includes the Museum of the Isles, which presents material on Clan Donald and local history, and maintained gardens and woodland walks that visitors use year-round. The castle remains sit within a designed landscape and are approached by paths and informal trails.
Historically the site served as the seat of the Macdonalds of Sleat; the house and its service buildings were altered in the 19th century and later fell into ruin, with the museum and gardens developed in the 20th century to interpret the estate’s history.
Armadale Castle and its grounds lie on the southeast coast of the Isle of Skye in the Highland council area, close to the ferry terminal at Armadale which provides seasonal services to Mallaig on the mainland.
