Arlington Stadium
Park Former Major League Baseball stadium in Arlington
Arlington Stadium was a baseball park in Arlington, Texas, that opened in 1965 and was expanded for major-league use. It is best known for serving as the Texas Rangers’ home stadium during the 1970s through the early 1990s.
Although the ballpark no longer stands, its significance lies in its role as a mid-20th-century urban baseball venue that was converted from a minor-league facility into a major-league park. After expansion the venue seated roughly 35,000 spectators and offered the basic open-air concrete bowl and bleacher seating typical of the era.
Built in 1965 as Turnpike Stadium for minor-league baseball, it was enlarged and adapted for major-league use when the Texas Rangers arrived in 1972. The stadium served the Rangers through the 1993 season and was removed in the mid-1990s when the team moved to a new ballpark.
Situated in the city of Arlington, the site lies between Dallas and Fort Worth in north-central Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
