About Århus Vor Frue Kirke#
Vor Frue Kirke (Aarhus Cathedral) is the principal church of Aarhus and the seat of the Diocese of Aarhus in Denmark. The building has medieval origins and serves as the city’s main parish church.
The structure originated in the 12th century and was substantially rebuilt in Gothic style in later medieval centuries, resulting in its present form with a long nave and prominent tower. The interior contains medieval furnishings, carved woodwork and historical liturgical objects typical of a major Scandinavian cathedral.
Constructed in the historic core of Aarhus, the cathedral has served as the city’s principal church through the medieval period, the Reformation and into the modern era.
Located in Aarhus’s city centre, the cathedral fronts the cathedral square and sits within the old Latin Quarter close to civic buildings and pedestrian streets.
