Argentina in April: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect

Northwest Andes (Salta, Jujuy, Quebrada de Humahuaca, Cafayate)

Clear, crisp mornings define April, with the quebradas taking on copper and gold tones as humidity drops. Rainfall is scarce; this is a prime time for exploring the archaeological sites around Humahuaca and taking long valley drives without the threat of sudden floods. Temperatures fall quickly after sunset, so layers are essential - daytime shirts are fine, but evenings can require a warm jacket at altitude.

Mesopotamia & Northeast Rainforest (Iguazú, Misiones, Corrientes, Entre Ríos)

April sees a gradual drop in humidity and more comfortable daytime temperatures; mornings in Posadas and Corrientes become pleasant for riverside strolls. Rainfall begins to taper though the rainforest around Iguazú can still produce sudden showers; the falls remain spectacular and slightly less choked with visitors compared with summer. Bring layered clothing for coolish early mornings and expect easier hiking conditions in provincial parks.

Cuyo & Mendoza (Mendoza, San Juan, Uco Valley, Aconcagua approach)

April ushers in clearer air and striking light; daytime temperatures fall into the comfortable high teens-low 20s°C and nights grow chillier. Autumn colours in the Andes foothills and the second grape harvest-related festivals make for scenic drives along Route 40 and valley roads. The risk of Zonda winds declines, and this is a fine month for cycling, vineyard visits and high-road sightseeing with fewer crowds.

Pampas & Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires city, La Plata, Mar del Plata, Rosario, Tigre)

April mornings are crisp and cooling in the Pampas; deciduous trees begin to change and the light turns golden - good for countryside drives near Rosario or estancia visits. Rainfall is moderate and storms less frequent than in summer, so rural dirt roads firm up and outdoor asados are easy to enjoy. Pack a medium-weight jacket for breezy evenings along the La Plata estuary.

Andean Lake District & Northern Patagonia (Bariloche, San Martín de los Andes, Neuquén, El Bolsón)

April carries clear, cool days and increasing chances of early snowfall on the highest ridges; lakes are quieter and the tourist season winds down.
