Arcul de Triumf Bucharest

Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest is Romania’s national triumphal arch, located on Șoseaua Kiseleff in the north of the city. The present stone structure dates to the mid-1930s and stands in the tradition of earlier arches erected at the site from 1878.

The monument is approximately 27 metres tall and is decorated with reliefs and inscriptions commemorating Romania’s military history and the soldiers who fought for national independence and unity. It is a central symbol used during national parades and ceremonial events.

The original temporary wooden arch was constructed in 1878 following Romania’s War of Independence; subsequent permanent versions followed, with the current design finalised and built in the interwar period. The site continues to serve both as a memorial and a public urban landmark.

Positioned on a major boulevard north of central Bucharest, the arch forms a visual terminus on Șoseaua Kiseleff and is surrounded by parks, diplomatic residences and public spaces.
