Archaeological Site of Delphi
Historical Site Ancient religious sanctuary and oracle of Apollo
The sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi sits on a terraced slope above the Gulf of Corinth, with a temple, theatre and small museum; visitors follow the Sacred Way, study inscriptions and take mountain views.
The Archaeological Site of Delphi is an ancient sanctuary on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in central Greece that served as the pan-Hellenic oracle of Apollo from the archaic through the Roman periods.
Key visitor elements include the foundations of the Temple of Apollo and the line of treasuries, a steep ancient theatre and the stadium, all arranged on a terraced slope with commanding views over the valley. The on-site archaeological museum displays major finds from the sanctuary, including monumental sculpture and votive material.
Delphi was a major religious and cultural centre of ancient Greece, where city-states presented offerings and consulted the oracle; the site preserves structural remains and inscriptions documenting pan-Hellenic rituals and politics across many centuries.
