How to Get to Pucón
Pucón is a small town; the usual gateway is Temuco. By road it’s about 90-110 km from Temuco (roughly 1.5 hours by car) via the main highways connecting Temuco to Villarrica/Pucón (follow Ruta 5 and the local roads toward Villarrica/Pucón). Regular intercity buses run from Temuco bus terminal to Pucón; from Santiago you can take a long‑distance bus to Pucón or fly to Temuco and continue by bus or car.
Tips for Visiting Pucón
- If you plan to climb Villarrica, book a licensed guide and start very early in the morning - weather changes quickly and guided ascents are the local standard for safety and permits.
- Avoid Chilean public-holiday weekends and high-summer weekends if you prefer quieter hot-springs and trailhead access; popular activities and tours should be booked ahead in peak season.
- Use Pucón as a base for early starts to nearby day trips (Huerquehue National Park, hot springs); arriving at trailheads first thing helps you beat the midday crowds.
