AquaDom
Museum Tall cylindrical aquarium with internal glass elevator
A cylindrical public aquarium in central Berlin that featured a glass elevator passing through tropical fish and coral displays. Visitors queued for the short immersive ride and the aquarium’s varied collection.
AquaDom is a large cylindrical public aquarium that stood within the lobby of a Radisson Blu hotel in central Berlin near Alexanderplatz. The structure was notable for its height, transparent cylinder, and an internal elevator that carried visitors through the aquarium’s volume.
A vertical acrylic cylinder filled with marine life offered close-up views of schooling fish and coral displays from multiple viewing levels and from the lift cabin that ascended through the tank. The aquarium functioned as both an exhibit and an architectural spectacle integrated with the hotel and neighboring Sea Life Berlin facilities.
Installed as a landmark feature in the 21st century, the AquaDom became one of Berlin’s recognizable modern attractions by combining aquarium display with a panoramic lift experience. It formed part of the complex of attractions around Alexanderplatz.
The AquaDom was located in the Mitte district of central Berlin, adjacent to Alexanderplatz and integrated into the Radisson Blu hotel and Sea Life exhibition complex.
- Panoramic lift and viewing: A tall cylindrical acrylic aquarium with a panoramic glass elevator running through its center, providing an immersive, vertical viewing experience.
- Scale and stock: Approximately one million litres of seawater and several hundred to over a thousand fish from multiple species populated the cylinder, creating a dense urban display of marine life.
