How to Get to Anse-à-Galets

Anse-à-Galets is La Gonâve island's main town; most visitors reach it via Port-au-Prince. There are limited direct air services; the reliable option is transfer to the ferry from Port-au-Prince and cross by boat to Anse-à-Galets.

By Air

Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP): A small number of domestic transfers and charter flights arrive into Port-au-Prince (PAP) on La Gonâve. From PAP you typically transfer to the ferry or local boat services to reach Anse-à-Galets; see ferry paragraph in the next card for schedules and prices.

Anse-à-Galets airstrip (Anse-à-Galets): There is a small airstrip on La Gonâve used sporadically by light aircraft; services are irregular and often charter-only. If you plan to arrive by air directly to La Gonâve, confirm schedules with local operators in Port-au-Prince before booking.

By Train & Bus

Ferry / Boat: Regular ferries and speedboats run from Port-au-Prince (various quays) to Anse-à-Galets on La Gonâve. Ferry schedules are changeable; typical ferry travel time is around 2-4 hours depending on vessel and sea conditions. Ticket prices are variable and often paid in Haitian gourdes at the port-expect a broad range and buy tickets at the harbour on the day.

Road (Port-au-Prince to ferry terminals): From Toussaint Louverture Airport or central Port-au-Prince you take a taxi or tap-tap to the ferry terminal; travel time inside Port-au-Prince can be 30-60+ minutes depending on traffic. There are no formal national rail services for this route.

How to Get Around Anse-à-Galets #

Anse-à-Galets (on La Gonâve) is best navigated on foot around the town centre; much of island travel relies on moto-taxis and small pickup taxis.
