The Angono Petroglyphs are a sheltered rock panel of incised figures on a cliff face in Angono, Rizal province, east of Metro Manila. The panel contains a large assemblage of stylized human and animal images that are widely regarded as the oldest known rock art in the Philippines.
Scholars generally date the carvings to the late Neolithic or early Metal Age. The panel was brought to wider attention in the mid-20th century and is now a protected cultural site with a covered viewing area to prevent direct contact with the rock surface.
The petroglyphs sit within the municipality of Angono, on the western edge of Laguna de Bay and within easy driving distance from Metro Manila. The site is visited for its archaeological importance and its role in the Philippines’ prehistory.
- Number of figures: The rock panel contains well over one hundred individual figures, commonly cited as around 127 carved motifs, and is considered the Philippines' oldest known rock-art site.
- Access and preservation: Public access is controlled at the site - a protective shelter and viewing platform are in place and touching the carvings is prohibited to preserve the surface.
