High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Northern Angola (Cabinda, Zaire, Uíge, Kwanza Norte fringe)
April sees the wet season easing gradually; daily rains are less relentless though the ground stays sodden and rivers high. Roads that were impassable begin to reopen, making overland routes to ports and border crossings more feasible; river levels remain elevated around the Congo tributaries. Packing should still include waterproof boots and moth-proof clothing - humidity and insects remain significant until the autumn dry sets in.
Luanda & the Atlantic Coast (Luanda to northern Benguela)
April starts the gradual drying trend; thunderstorms become less frequent though heavy showers still occur, especially over the offshore islands and estuaries like Kwanza River. Sea breezes provide some relief in the afternoons and small craft services stabilize; the city is marginally quieter as seasonal visitors thin out. Light rainwear and mosquito protection remain useful for evening outings.
Central Highlands (Huambo, Bié, Mount Moco and Lubango/Serra da Leba fringe)
April sees the rains tapering and the landscape begin to dry; mornings remain damp but afternoons clear more frequently, improving travel and visibility. This transition is excellent for photographers as waterfalls remain full while access improves to places like Mount Moco and the coffee zones around Huambo. Expect cooler nights and pack a warmer jacket for high-altitude evenings.
Southern Coast & Namibe Desert (Namibe Province, Moçâmedes, Iona National Park)
April sees temperatures start to moderate slightly, though daylight remains hot inland and the sea continues to feel cool, especially near the barrières along the beach. Visibility stays superb for landscape photography as dust cleared by winds settles, and the desert light in late afternoon is particularly striking. Pack layers for temperature swings between hot days and cooler coastal evenings.
Eastern Savannas & Borderlands (Cuando Cubango, Moxico, Lunda regions and national parks)
April brings the rains toward their end and the water levels remain elevated - boat trips and river safaris continue to show plentiful birdlife and active wildlife at waterholes. Overland access improves week by week and long-distance transfers become more reliable than in peak wet months. Lightweight waterproofs are still useful and flexible timing for game drives will pay off as tracks dry.
