The Ancient Theatre of Taormina is a Greco-Roman theatre in Taormina, Sicily, originally constructed in the Hellenistic period and later rebuilt and enlarged in Roman times. It sits on a hillside with commanding views of the coastline and Mount Etna.

Visitors can walk the surviving seating tiers and the orchestra area and view the raised stage remains; the location offers panoramic vistas of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna that contribute to its popularity. The theatre is also used periodically for concerts and performances, continuing its long tradition as a venue for staged events.

The visible fabric shows Greek-era masonry and later Roman alterations, providing insight into classical theatre architecture and local adaptations in Sicily.

Taormina’s ancient theatre sits in the town above Giardini Naxos. From Catania drive the A18 motorway to the Taormina/Giardini Naxos exits and either park in Giardini Naxos and take the funicular (funivia) up to Taormina or drive into town and use public parking. The funicular station at Taormina‑Giardini is a short ride up and the theatre is then a 5-15 minute walk through the town (along Corso Umberto and side streets) to the archaeological site.

• Visit at opening or late afternoon to avoid cruise-ship and day-tour peaks-early morning gives cooler light for photos and late afternoon provides dramatic views of Mount Etna and the sea from the upper tiers.
