Amphitheatre of Mérida

The Amphitheatre of Mérida is a Roman amphitheatre in the city of Mérida (ancient Emerita Augusta) in Extremadura, Spain, preserved as part of the city’s extensive Roman archaeological ensemble. It formed the entertainment and combat venue for the colony established by Augustus in the late 1st century BC.

The amphitheatre sits adjacent to the Roman theatre and other civic buildings in the archaeological complex, and together they represent the urban fabric of the Roman provincial capital.
