Alvand Park

Alvand is a mountain massif in Hamadan province in western Iran, part of the Zagros range and a prominent landmark near the city of Hamadan. It rises well above 3,000 meters and dominates the local landscape.

The area is popular for hiking and short mountain treks along ridgelines and valleys. Routes access alpine meadows and limestone outcrops; trail difficulty ranges from easy day walks near lower slopes to longer ascents for experienced hikers.

Historically the massif has formed natural defenses and a watershed for the region; it appears in local geographic and literary sources but is primarily a natural rather than built landmark. Human activity around the mountain has included seasonal grazing and small rural settlements.

The massif sits immediately south of the city of Hamadan in western Iran, on the eastern edge of the Zagros range; nearby towns are within a few dozen kilometers and the terrain around it is a mix of cultivated valley land and rugged foothills.

In Hamadan you can take a taxi or local shared minibus (savari) toward the villages at the mountain’s base and begin hikes from trailheads - specific bus numbers vary locally.

• Start hikes early in the day to avoid midday heat and limited visibility from haze; hiring a local guide from Hamadan gives you safer route knowledge and up‑to‑date conditions.
