The Allahuekber Mountains are a mountain group in northeastern Turkey, located near the provinces of Ardahan, Kars and Erzurum. The range rises to high elevations and is characterised by alpine and subalpine terrain with long, harsh winters.
The mountains were involved in the Caucasus theatre of the First World War; winter operations in the area during 1914-1916 caused severe casualties due in part to extreme cold and heavy snow. Today the range is a remote highland area with mountain roads and passes linking provinces in northeastern Turkey.
Geographically the range sits close to Turkey’s border with the South Caucasus and forms part of the broader highland zone between the Anatolian plateau and the Caucasus.
