Alişar Hüyük

Alişar Hüyük is an archaeological tell in Yozgat Province in central Turkey, representing a long sequence of prehistoric and historic occupation on a raised mound. The site contains multiple strata of settlement debris and structural remains stacked over many centuries.

On-site features include a prominent central mound with remains of domestic areas, public buildings and fortifications; the upper levels preserve evidence of citadel-like defensive architecture. The layered deposits make the tell valuable for studying settlement continuity and cultural change in central Anatolia.

The site was occupied from the prehistoric Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age through the Hittite period and beyond, reflecting shifts in material culture and political affiliations. Excavations and surveys have documented architecture, pottery and fortification phases that map this long chronology.

Alişar Hüyük lies on the central Anatolian plateau in Yozgat Province, within an inland agricultural landscape and reachable from regional towns in central Turkey.
