How to Get to Algonquin Provincial Park #
Algonquin Provincial Park’s main corridor runs along Ontario Highway 60. The park is about a 3-4 hour drive from Toronto (roughly 250-300 km) via Highway 400 and then east on Highway 60; the Visitor Centre and main access points are located on Highway 60. Once you reach the Highway 60 corridor, trailheads and parking areas are a short walk from the highway pullouts and park facilities.
Tips for Visiting Algonquin Provincial Park #
- Use the Highway 60 (West Gate) corridor for the visitor centre, classic day hikes and canoe launches; if you want fewer people, enter via Achray or other east-side access points for quieter trails and campsites.
- Visit in late spring (May) or early fall (September/early October) to avoid summer crowds, catch wildlife activity and (in fall) the best colours along the trails and roads.
- If you plan to canoe or backcountry camp, reserve backcountry campsites and obtain any required permits through the Ontario Parks reservation system well before peak season.
