How to Get to Al-Ula

Al‑Ula now has a dedicated airport (ULH) making it much easier to visit the archaeological sites and town. For most travellers, flying directly into ULH and using hotel transfers or taxis is the simplest option.

By Air

Al-Ula Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ULH): Al-Ula has its own airport (ULH) with domestic flights from Riyadh and Jeddah and seasonal international services. From ULH the town and Hegra/archaeological sites are 10-30 minutes by taxi or hotel transfer; expect short fixed fares for airport taxis or included hotel transfers.

Medina (Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport, MED): Some travellers fly into Medina and drive to Al‑Ula (approx. 2.5-3 hours, depending on route). Taxis and private transfers are available for the intercity drive.

By Train & Bus

Train: Saudi Arabia’s passenger rail network does not currently offer direct rail services to Al‑Ula.

Bus / Coach: Intercity coaches operate between major cities (Riyadh, Jeddah, Medina) and north-west destinations; bus travel to Al‑Ula is possible but less frequent than air. Once in Al‑Ula, local taxis and hotel shuttles are the main ways to reach archaeological sites.

How to Get Around Al-Ula #

Al‑Ula region is extensive; renting a car or joining guided tours is the most practical way to see the sites. Al‑Ula International Airport now provides domestic flights, and car hire is available there. Taxis exist but can be limited outside the main resort and Old Town areas; many visitors use tour operators who handle transfers between Hegra, Old Town and the desert sites.
