Akrai is an archaeological site in southeast Sicily representing an ancient Greek settlement with visible Hellenistic and later remains. It lies close to the modern town of Palazzolo Acreide and is important for its theatre and urban archaeology.

Founded and settled in antiquity by Greek colonists associated with nearby Syracuse, the site developed through the Classical and Hellenistic periods and continued to be used into Roman times. Archaeological excavations have revealed the town plan, public buildings and burial areas.

Akrai stands on a limestone plateau south of the modern town of Palazzolo Acreide in the province of Syracuse, inland from the southeastern coast of Sicily.

• Acropolis and urban remains: Ruined urban quarters and public structures on the acropolis area showing the plan of the ancient settlement and its defensive works.
• Necropolis areas: Burial areas and necropoleis located on the slopes and surrounding territory, with tomb remains and funerary pottery from different periods.

The chapel is in central Padua near Piazza Eremitani and the archaeological museum. It is a short walk from Padua’s main railway station (10-15 minutes) or reachable by city bus. Timed‑entry tickets are required and should be booked ahead, especially in high season.

• Book timed tickets well in advance - capacity is strictly limited to preserve Giotto's fragile frescoes.
• The chapel enforces a climate‑controlled viewing protocol: visits are short and often accompanied by a brief orientation lecture.
