How to Get to Ake #
Aké is reachable from Mérida by highway. From Mérida take the Mérida-Valladolid road (Federal 180/180D) and follow local roads toward the town of Aké (roughly 45-60 minutes by car, distance ~60-70 km). Local colectivos and guided tours from Mérida or Izamal occasionally include Aké as part of a circuit.
Tips for Visiting Ake #
- Arrive in the cooler morning light to see long shadows along the low platforms - the site's low pyramids read best before noon glare.
- Look for the long sacbé (white road) segments and low residential platforms - Aké is less theatrical than Chichén Itzá but more intimate.
- Combine with nearby sites like Izamal or a cenote swim in the afternoon.
