Akbar’s Tomb is the mausoleum of the Mughal Emperor Akbar located in Sikandra, on the western outskirts of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. The mausoleum is an important example of early Mughal funerary architecture.
A substantial red sandstone and marble tomb set within a charbagh-style walled garden and approached along a formal axis. Architectural features include parapets, decorative stonework and gateways that reflect Mughal design motifs.
Construction of the tomb was begun by Emperor Akbar late in his life and completed by his son, Jahangir, in the early 17th century after Akbar’s death in 1605. The monument has been restored and maintained as a historic site since the colonial period.
Set in Sikandra on the western side of Agra, the tomb is a short drive from central Agra and commonly visited alongside other Mughal-era monuments in the area.

Sikandra is approximately 8-10 km north of Agra’s center. Taxis and auto-rickshaws run from central Agra; many visitors combine Sikandra with a half-day circuit of Agra’s Mughal sites.

- Combine a visit with nearby Agra sites but allow at least 1-2 hours to absorb Sikandra's unique architectural style and gardens.
- Look for the inscription plaque above the main gate-Jahangir's family completed the tomb in the early 17th century.
- Visit in early morning to avoid the heat and to see the gardens at their quietest.
