Agrigento Cathedral (Duomo di Agrigento) is the principal church of Agrigento in Sicily, occupying a hilltop site above the town and the adjacent archaeological valley. The building has medieval origins and visible later-period Baroque alterations.
The cathedral’s hilltop position provides views over the town and toward the nearby Valley of the Temples, making it a focal point for visitors to Agrigento’s historic centre. Architectural elements combine Norman-Romanesque foundations with later renovations and Baroque interior and exterior features.
Originally established in the medieval period by the bishops of Agrigento, the cathedral has been rebuilt and altered after damage from earthquakes and successive renovations, resulting in a mix of stylistic phases. It is dedicated to Saint Gerlando, a local patron bishop.
