Ägerisee (Lake Ägeri) is a lake in the canton of Zug in central Switzerland, situated in the Ägeri valley. It lies between the lakeside communities of Oberägeri and Unterägeri and is a local recreational resource.
The lake is used for swimming, small-boat sailing, fishing and walking along its shores; paths and minor beaches provide public access at multiple points. The surrounding hills and farmland frame the lake and make it a common short-trip destination for nearby towns.

Ägerisee (Lake Ägeri) is served from the townships of Unterägeri and Oberägeri in the canton of Zug. The quickest public option is to take regional rail to Zug and then a local bus or taxi to Unterägeri/Oberägeri (short onward drive), with the lake shore reached on foot from the villages. By car it is a short drive from the city of Zug (around 10-20 minutes); from Zurich expect under an hour depending on traffic.
Tips for Visiting Ägerisee #
- Approach the lake from Oberägeri for the main lakeside facilities and easier public-transport connections from Zug; Oberägeri is the usual starting point for popular walking routes and the main swimming/lido areas.
- Visit early morning or late afternoon for calm water and softer light for photography-the shorelines and birdlife are far quieter outside peak weekend hours when local visitors concentrate at the main beaches.
- To experience quieter scenery, follow paths toward Unterägeri or the less-developed eastern shore; those stretches are more peaceful and reveal rural landscape and small chapels that many day visitors miss.
