Achziv
Archaeological Site Ancient coastal site with ruins and historic harbor
A coastal archaeological park near Israel’s northern shore, Achziv combines ancient ruins with sandy coves for swimming, camping and local snorkeling along small inlets.
Achziv is a coastal archaeological site and national park on the Mediterranean shore in northern Israel, noted for its beaches and visible ruins of the former village al-Zeeb. The area combines shoreline recreation with archaeological remains and small offshore islets.
The park offers several sandy and rocky beaches, shallow coves used for swimming and snorkeling, and a compact campground. Trails and shoreline viewpoints provide close views of the nearby islets and coastal ruins; facilities are oriented to day visitors and campers rather than long historical tours.
The site includes the remains of a 20th-century Palestinian village known as al-Zeeb, which was depopulated in 1948, plus older archaeological remains along the coast and terraces used historically by local fishing communities. Over the 20th century the area was incorporated into a national park and developed for public beach use.
Geographically the site sits on Israel’s northern Mediterranean coast, a short distance north of the city of Nahariya in the country’s Northern District. The shoreline is low and rocky with sandy stretches and small offshore islets visible from the beaches.
- Location tip: The site sits on the Mediterranean coast of northern Israel, a short drive north of Nahariya and accessible from the coastal highway.
- What to bring: The park combines recreational beach access with visible historic ruins and a small offshore islet group, so bring beach gear and sturdy shoes for exploring.
