History & Culture of Wat Hua Wiang#
The temple occupies a large compound, and the huge viharn immediately catches the eye with its roofs stacked one upon another to a considerable height. The silver eaves are covered with delicate patterns, and the principal Buddha image, called Phra Chao Phala Lakhaeng, was cast in Mandalay and brought here in the 1930s.
The newer, brightly decorated bot in one corner of the compound features rich red painting and glittering mosaic work. Though most temples in Mae Hong Son are built in the Shan style, Wat Hua Wiang is on a grander scale, making it more impressive than most.
