Sogod Travel Guide

The coastal town of Sogod is located on the northeastern shore of Cebu in the south of the Philippines. It’s a pleasant, though quiet, town with a decent all-around seaside resort scene.

There are only around 30,000 people that live in the vicinity of Sogod, and this helps give the town just enough population to make it interesting but not so much that it ever feels busy. Most people here farm coconuts, corn and other vegetables, giving Sogod a pleasant agricultural feel to complement the beach and sea.

But most travelers who manage to find their way to Sogod come here for the sea and sand. There are some very nice beaches right on the edge of town and plenty of comfortable resorts to cater to visitors. Many of the resorts offer water sports gear, and the ocean swimming is very good.

Sogod, like most of Cebu, is also known for its scuba diving. There are some decent dive sites off the coast in the Camote Sea, and they are definitely much less crowded than the more popular Cebu sites. Also, things tend to be cheaper in Sogod compared to more developed beach towns on the island.

One land-based attraction that’s worth a visit is Gerona Farm, located about 15 minutes from the centre of Sogod by car. It’s easy to hire a habal-habal motorbike taxi to get you there, where you can check out farm-raised fish and other pastoral pleasantries.

Getting There & Away

The nearest airport to Sogod is the main Mactan-Cebu International Airport, located on Mactan Island just across the strait from Cebu City. This busy airport handles numerous flights every day from Manila and other regional destinations. From the airport you can hire a private taxi or catch the local bus that heads up the eastern coast road. It takes about 90 minutes to reach Sogod from the airport.
