Trivia
Misamis Occidental is one of three major prawn, shrimp and squid spawning grounds in the Philippines.

Most of Mindanao's beautiful beaches are located to the south of the island, and this is the area that attracts most of Mindanao's tourists. However, there is still plenty of natural beauty to discover in Northern Mindanao such as jungles and sparkling waterfalls.

Accommodation in Northern Mindanao tends to be slightly cheaper than in the south, so budget travelers will have plenty of places to choose from. The large local market is a great place to find a cheap meal and there are a wide variety of dishes on offer, from traditional Muslim fare to fried snacks and western treats.
