Mohe Travel Guide

Close to the Russian border, the town of Mohe marks the most northerly point of China. The town is often referred to as China's 'arctic town' due to its remoteness and extremely cold weather.

Worth It?
If you are in the area at the time of Summer Solstice, don't miss this fantastic natural light show.
What to Do

Best Time to Go

How Long?
One night.

The Heilongjiang River separates Mohe from Russia and a large stone tablet emblazoned with four Chinese characters indicates the end of Chinese territory. A collage of mountains and rivers create a beautiful backdrop for the modest town; however, a far more spectacular display steals the show after dark.

Due to high latitude and clear skies, Mohe is a popular observation point for the Northern Lights. The fantastic luminous rings dance across the sky changing color and size as they disappear to the east. An airport was recently built to provide tourists with a welcome alternative to the 20-hour train journey from Harbin.

Travel to Mohe - Getting There

A newly built airport has made Mohe a lot more accessible. Daily flights to Beijing take 4 hours, 45 minutes and flights to Harbin, also available daily, take 1 hour, 40 minutes. Alternatively, trains from Harbin take 20 hours.
