Moalboal Travel Guide

Moalboal is one of Cebu’s oldest and most popular seaside resort destinations. Although it is mainly known for its superb scuba diving, the town is great for simple all-around beach lounging.

Located on a peninsula on the western coast of Cebu, Moalboal is almost completely surrounded by water. Since the 1970s, this town has been developed as a beach resort destination and thus offers plenty of amenities for travelers. The huge island of Negros can clearly be seen from its shore, as can tiny Pescador Island, which is a major tourist site.

Most visitors stay at either Panagsama Beach or White Beach. Both have plenty of accommodation, nice sand and calm seas ideal for swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving. There are a few bars around, but they’re typically laid-back beach-style affairs.

The scuba diving is what lures many people to Moalboal. The reefs are just offshore and rank among the best in the Philippines. Nearby Pescador Island is also surrounded by some truly sublime reefs teeming with sea life and colors. If the water starts to get boring, there are dozens of caves, waterfalls and canyons to explore within 10 miles of Moalboal.

Getting There & Away

Moalboal is around 60 miles from Cebu City, just across the island. The easiest way to reach the town is to fly into Mactan-Cebu International Airport and catch a bus to Moalboal, which takes less than 3 hours. Flights from Manila (1 hour) and other surrounding cities arrive regularly at the airport.
