Zwettl Abbey

Zwettl Abbey (Stift Zwettl) is a Cistercian monastery in Zwettl, Lower Austria, founded in the 12th century. It remains an active monastic community and a historic complex with church, cloister and ancillary buildings.

Visitors come to see the abbey church and cloister, which preserve Romanesque and Gothic architectural features and house liturgical furnishings and medieval stone carving. The monastic library and archives hold manuscripts and documents spanning centuries of Cistercian history.
