Žuvintas is a Lithuanian wetland reserve centred on a shallow lake and reedbeds; birdwatchers come for migratory waterfowl, guided hides and seasonal observation towers.
How to Get to Žuvintas #
Žuvintas Reserve lies south of Kaunas and can be accessed from the town of Prienai or from Alytus by regional roads. A car is the most convenient option; local buses serve nearby towns but may not stop at the reserve entrance. Follow signs for Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve from main regional roads.
Tips for Visiting Žuvintas #
- Visit early morning for best birdwatching; bring binoculars if interested in the reserve's avifauna.
- Use marked trails and keep to boardwalks - parts of the reserve are protected wetlands.
- Download a map in advance as mobile coverage can be patchy within the reserve.
