Zuoying District is an administrative district in the northern part of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, combining residential, historical and recreational areas. It includes both a preserved section of an old walled city and extensive modern transport infrastructure.

The district is best known for the Lotus Pond scenic area, a lake ringed by temples and pagodas including the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and the Spring and Autumn Pavilions; the site is popular for walking, photography and religious festivals. Another frequent destination is the preserved remains of the Qing-era Zuoying Old City, and the district contains the major rail interchange Xinzuoying station, which links high-speed and local services.

Zuoying developed around the historic walled settlement and expanded through the 20th century into a mixed urban district while retaining pockets of historical fabric. The old city walls and gates date from the Qing period and have been subject to preservation and partial restoration.

Geographically the district occupies the northern sector of Kaohsiung municipality, adjoining central Kaohsiung to the south; it functions as a suburban and transport node within the metropolitan area.

• Transport hub: The district contains a major transport hub - Xinzuoying station - where HSR, TRA and Kaohsiung MRT lines meet, making it the easiest rail access point for northern Kaohsiung.
• Temple cluster: Lotus Pond area contains multiple temples and pagodas clustered around the lake and is busiest during temple festivals and weekends.

What to See#

• Lotus Pond (Lotus Lake): A large artificial lake and temple ensemble featuring several pagodas and pavilions, including the well-known Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and the Spring and Autumn Pavilions. The pond area is a focal point for festivals and walking routes.
• Zuoying Old City: A section of preserved Qing-era city wall and gates around the old walled settlement, with surviving ramparts and restored gates near the modern urban fabric.
• Xinzuoying / Zuoying HSR station: Major rail interchange that serves Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railways and Kaohsiung MRT, offering direct high-speed links to Taipei and other cities and local metro access to central Kaohsiung.

Zuoying District is in northern Kaohsiung. Take the Taiwan High Speed Rail to Zuoying Station or the Kaohsiung MRT Red Line to Zuoying (R16). Local buses and taxis connect to Lotus Pond, the Old City, and other local attractions.

• Visit Lotus Pond temples (Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, Spring and Autumn Pavilions) in the early evening when the lights reflect on the water.
• Use Kaohsiung's metro to reach Zuoying-take the Red Line to Zuoying Station and then transfer to buses for local sights like the old walled city and Lotus Pond.
• Check local schedules for the Confucius Temple's events-weekday mornings are often quieter for photography.
