Zuoying District is an administrative district in the northern part of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, combining residential, historical and recreational areas. It includes both a preserved section of an old walled city and extensive modern transport infrastructure.
The district is best known for the Lotus Pond scenic area, a lake ringed by temples and pagodas including the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and the Spring and Autumn Pavilions; the site is popular for walking, photography and religious festivals. Another frequent destination is the preserved remains of the Qing-era Zuoying Old City, and the district contains the major rail interchange Xinzuoying station, which links high-speed and local services.
Zuoying developed around the historic walled settlement and expanded through the 20th century into a mixed urban district while retaining pockets of historical fabric. The old city walls and gates date from the Qing period and have been subject to preservation and partial restoration.
Geographically the district occupies the northern sector of Kaohsiung municipality, adjoining central Kaohsiung to the south; it functions as a suburban and transport node within the metropolitan area.
