Zugerberg is a wooded mountain ridge in the Canton of Zug rising to roughly 1,000 metres and overlooking the city of Zug and Lake Zug. It is a popular local recreation area for hiking and short excursions.
The ridge offers panoramic viewpoints, picnic areas and a network of trails suitable for family walks and longer hikes, with viewpoints that frame Lake Zug and, on clear days, distant Alpine peaks. Seasonal activities include summer walking and winter sledging on maintained paths.
The area has been used as a local recreational landscape for generations, with trails and facilities developed to support day visitors and local outdoor activities.
Zugerberg sits directly above the town of Zug and is reachable by local roads and marked footpaths from the Zug town center.

How to Get to Zugerberg #
From Zug town center take the Zugerbergbahn funicular from Chamerstrasse (near Zug railway station) up to the mountain. Local buses connect nearby villages to Zug; driving routes follow Kantonsstrasse/route signs for Zugerberg with parking at the lower or upper stations.
Tips for Visiting Zugerberg #
- Take the Zugerbergbahn funicular from Zug for the classic ascent and panoramic arrival point.
- Bring a light jacket-the summit is often several degrees cooler than Zug town and windier.
- Try the Panoramaweg trail for sweeping views of Lake Zug and the Alps; the path is well-marked and takes about 2-3 hours round-trip from the mountain station.
