Zlatni Rat
Beach Distinctive pebble spit beach on Brač peninsula
On Brač island, Zlatni Rat is a horn-shaped pebble spit jutting into the Adriatic near Bol; its distinctive beach, clear water and steady winds attract sunbathers, swimmers and windsurfers.
Zlatni Rat is a distinctive pebble spit on the southern coast of the island of Brač in Croatia, beside the town of Bol. The formation is one of Croatia’s best-known beaches and a landmark of the Dalmatian coast.
The beach is a long, narrow spit of white pebbles that projects into the Adriatic and ends in a pointed tip; the landform is accessible by a short walk from Bol and from nearby beach facilities. Visitors use the site for swimming, sunbathing and wind sports, and the tip is popular for short coastal walks and photography.
The spit is a natural feature shaped by longshore drift and coastal currents rather than a constructed harbor or pier. It has been a focal point for local tourism since the development of Bol as a seaside destination.
Sitting on the southern shore of Brač island in Split-Dalmatia County, the spit lies immediately west of the town of Bol and faces the open Adriatic. The island is reached by ferry from the Dalmatian mainland and then by road to Bol.
- Size: about 600 meters long and formed of fine white pebbles, tapering to a narrow, shifting tip into the Adriatic Sea.
- Changing shape: the narrow tip regularly alters its outline after storms and with changing currents, making the spit visibly different from year to year.
- Water sports: a popular spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing because of reliable winds on the southern side of Brač.
