How to Get to Zion's Hill#
Zion’s Hill is on the tiny Caribbean island of Saba; most visitors arrive on short inter-island flights from Sint Maarten (Winair) or by ferry when available. The island is small and travel between points is rapid but roads are steep and winding.
Princess Juliana International (SXM): The usual international gateway for Saba is Saint Martin’s Princess Juliana Airport. From Sint Maarten you can fly to Saba with Winair (several daily flights); flight time is about 10-20 minutes and fares commonly range around USD 100-150 one-way.
Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (SAB): Saba’s own airport is tiny and serves only inter-island flights (Winair). Arrival here places you a short drive from most points on the island; taxis and rental jeeps are available at the airstrip.
Train: There is no rail service on Saba or nearby islands.
Bus / Ferry: Ferries operate from Sint Maarten to Saba at irregular seasonal schedules (operators include Voyager/Great Bay Express when running); crossings take roughly 90-150 minutes and fares commonly range USD 40-80 depending on operator and season. On Saba, local minibuses and taxis connect the small settlements (Zion’s Hill is on Saba and reachable by road from the airport).
How to Get Around Zion's Hill#
Saba is reached almost entirely by short inter-island flights (Winair) or seasonal ferries from Sint Maarten; once on the island taxis, shared vans or rented jeeps move you quickly between the few settlements. Hiking is a major local activity.
- Winair flights (SXM-SAB) (USD 100-150 one-way) - Winair provides the primary scheduled air link between Sint Maarten and Saba with short flights into Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport. Flights are frequent but limited by small aircraft-book early, especially in high season.
- Ferry (Sint Maarten-Saba) (USD 40-80) - When operating, ferries are a lower-cost option than flights but crossings are longer and schedules can be seasonal or weather-dependent. Ferries land at Fort Bay; from there you take a taxi/mini-bus up the hill.
- Taxi / shared van (USD 5-25) - On Saba taxis and shared vans are the main local transport; they provide quick transfers from the airport or harbour to settlements like Zion’s Hill. Expect short uphill drives on steep, narrow roads.
- Car / jeep rental (USD 50+/day) - Small jeep rentals are available for visitors who want flexibility; vehicle sizes are limited by steep roads and tight parking. Renting can be useful for exploring the full island on your own schedule.
- Hiking (-) - Saba is famous for its hiking trails (e.g., Mount Scenery). Hiking is an excellent way to see the island’s interior-bring good footwear and water; trails can be steep and uneven.
- Walking - Settlements are compact but built on steep terrain; walking between nearby points is common but expect steep climbs and steps-comfortable shoes are recommended.
