Zhongshan Park is a public urban park in central Beijing, immediately adjacent to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, named in honor of Sun Yat-sen (Sun Zhongshan). It occupies a site that was formerly part of imperial grounds and is one of several parks in China bearing the Zhongshan name.
The park contains classical Chinese garden features, tree-lined paths, pavilions and small courtyards arranged over a compact urban footprint. It is used for short walks, photography and viewing seasonal plantings; many visitors combine a stop here with visits to nearby central Beijing attractions.
The site was part of imperial palace grounds before being converted to a public park and renamed in the early 20th century after Sun Yat-sen. Over time the grounds were opened to the public and have been maintained as a municipal park with preserved historic structures.
Located in the heart of Beijing Municipality, the park sits directly beside the western approach to the Forbidden City and just north of Tiananmen Square, within walking distance of several subway stations and central Beijing hotels.
