Zhenbao Island (Russian: Damansky) is a small island in the Ussuri River on the border between Russia and China, located in Primorsky Krai. It is historically notable as the location of violent border clashes between Soviet and Chinese forces in 1969.
Today the island is uninhabited and is primarily known as a border landmark and historical site rather than as a populated or recreational destination. The clashes of 1969 led to heightened tensions and later border negotiations between the two countries.
The island sits in the middle reaches of the Ussuri River in the Russian Far East, adjacent to the international border with China, and is set in a riverine landscape of forests and floodplain.
