Mountains Mountain range in southern Armenia, rich biodiversity

The Zangezur Mountains are a mountain chain in the southern Armenian Highlands forming rugged highlands in southern Armenia and adjacent areas. The range contains steep valleys, alpine meadows and high summits important for regional hydrology and biodiversity.

What to See #

Tips for Visiting Zangezur Mountains #
- Plan visits between late spring and early autumn (May-October) when mountain roads are usually open; winter and early spring see snow and seasonal closures on many access tracks.
- Use Kapan or Goris as practical gateway towns - they are the main transport and lodging hubs for the Syunik/Zangezur area and the best places to arrange local 4x4 transfers or guides.
- Allow extra time and arrange a local guide or driver for remote side-valleys: many routes are rugged, unmarked and pass close to border zones, so guides help with navigation, local permissions and the best viewpoints most independent visitors miss.
Best Time to Visit Zangezur Mountains #
Late spring through early autumn (roughly May-September) is the best time to visit the Zangezur Mountains for hiking and snow-free access.
