How to Get to Yingkou
Yingkou (营口) is a coastal port city in Liaoning province with good rail links along the northeast corridor and road connections to nearby regional hubs. The nearest major airports for international or wider domestic connections are Shenyang Taoxian (SHE) and Dalian Zhoushuizi (DLC); most visitors reach Yingkou by rail or intercity bus from those airports.
Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (SHE): Shenyang Taoxian is the nearest major airport with the most domestic connections. To reach Yingkou, take the airport shuttle or taxi to Shenyang Railway Station or Shenyang North Station (shuttle ~30-45 minutes, CNY 20-30; taxi ~40-60 minutes, CNY 80-120), then a high-speed train to Yingkou East (see train card) - the rail leg typically takes around 1-2 hours.
Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (DLC): Dalian is also a convenient gateway, especially for flights into the south of Liaoning. From Dalian Airport you can take the airport shuttle or a taxi to Dalian Railway Station (shuttle ~30-50 minutes, CNY 20-30; taxi ~40-60 minutes, CNY 80-130) and then a high-speed train to Yingkou East (about 1-1.5 hours by rail).
Train: Yingkou is served by Yingkou East (营口东) on the high-speed network and the older Yingkou Station (营口站) for conventional services. Common routes include Shenyang-Yingkou and Dalian-Yingkou on the Harbin-Dalian/Coastal high-speed corridors; travel times are typically ~1-2 hours from Shenyang and ~1-1.5 hours from Dalian, with second-class high-speed fares commonly in the range of CNY 40-150 depending on distance and train type.
Bus: Long-distance coaches run to Yingkou from cities across Liaoning. Intercity bus travel times vary (Shenyang ≈ 2-3 hours, Dalian ≈ 1.5-3 hours) and ticket prices commonly range from CNY 30-120 depending on route and seat class. Yingkou has central long-distance bus terminals and local city buses that connect the urban area with surrounding districts and industrial zones.
How to Get Around Yingkou
Yingkou is easiest to access by rail - high-speed services to Yingkou East link the city to Shenyang and Dalian - while local travel is best by taxi or Didi for speed and convenience. City buses are very cheap but can be slow and less tourist-friendly; walking works well for exploring central neighbourhoods.
- High-speed rail (Yingkou East) (¥40-¥150) - Yingkou East (营口东) is the main high-speed station serving the city on the Harbin-Dalian and coastal corridors. Trains are the most reliable and comfortable way to reach and leave Yingkou for other Liaoning cities; book in advance during holidays. Expect modern facilities at the station and frequent services to Shenyang and Dalian.
- Conventional rail (Yingkou Station) (¥20-¥80) - Yingkou Station (营口站) handles slower conventional services and can be useful for regional or freight-adjacent routes. Travel is cheaper than high-speed trains but takes longer; it's a practical option if your schedule is flexible and you're carrying heavy luggage. Station facilities are basic compared with high-speed terminals.
- Intercity bus (¥30-¥120) - Long-distance coaches connect Yingkou with Shenyang, Dalian and smaller Liaoning cities; buses depart from the main coach terminals and are often more frequent late at night than trains. Coaches are usually cheaper than high-speed rail but take longer and can be affected by road congestion. Bring cash for ticket counters, though many terminals accept mobile payments.
- Taxi (¥10-¥80) - Taxis are an easy way to get from stations or the port to neighbourhoods not well served by buses; expect a flag drop around CNY 8-12 and roughly CNY 2-3 per km thereafter (city fares vary slightly). Taxis are convenient for short hops or when carrying luggage, but traffic can add time during peak hours. Ask drivers to use the meter; have your destination written in Chinese if your Mandarin is limited.
- Ride-hailing (Didi) (¥10-¥100) - Didi and other ride-hailing apps operate in Yingkou and are often cheaper or more convenient than street-hailed taxis for set pickup points at stations. The apps accept Chinese payment methods and show estimated fares and ETAs; surge pricing can apply during peak times or holidays. Good option when you need door-to-door service without language friction.
- Walking - Central Yingkou is compact enough to explore on foot in many districts, especially the riverside and downtown areas. Walking is the best way to absorb local street life and access markets and small restaurants; wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for limited English signage outside major spots.
