Lipetsk Airport (LPK): Lipetsk is the closest commercial airport to Yelets. From Lipetsk Airport you can reach Yelets by taxi or pre-booked transfer; the drive takes roughly 60-90 minutes depending on traffic. Expect taxi fares in the 1,500-2,500 RUB range for a direct ride to Yelets.
Voronezh Peter the Great Airport (VOZ): Voronezh is a larger airport with more scheduled flights and car-rental options. The drive from Voronezh Airport to Yelets takes about 1.5-2.5 hours by car or taxi; taxi/transfers typically cost around 2,000-3,500 RUB. From Voronezh you can also continue by regional bus or train (see the Train & Bus card) if you prefer ground connections.
Train: Yelets has a railway station (Елец) served by regional and some long-distance services. Regional trains from Lipetsk and Voronezh run regularly; typical regional journey times are around 1-2 hours from Lipetsk and about 1.5-2.5 hours from parts of Voronezh oblast. Tickets on regional services are inexpensive (often on the order of a few hundred rubles); check Russian Railways (RZD) for timetables and exact fares.

Typical travel times are roughly 1-2 hours from Lipetsk and 1.5-3 hours from Voronezh depending on route and stops. - Regional train (100-600 RUB) - Regional trains to Yelets are a reliable way to travel from nearby cities like Lipetsk and parts of Voronezh oblast. Trains arrive at Yelets railway station (Елец); they are comfortable for short daytime journeys and avoid road traffic. Frequencies are reasonable during the day but thin out in evenings and on Sundays. Carry small change for fares and ask locals or the driver for the correct stop if you're unsure.
- Walking - Yelets town centre is compact and pleasant to explore on foot; many sights, shops and cafes are clustered near the historical centre.
