Yad Vashem

Yad Vashem is Israel’s official Holocaust remembrance authority and complex, located on the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem. It serves as a museum, research center, archive and national memorial to victims of the Holocaust.

The site includes the Holocaust History Museum’s chronological exhibitions, the Hall of Names, permanent memorial installations and outdoor commemorative spaces. Educational programs, archives and databases support research and family-history inquiries.

Yad Vashem was established by Israeli law in 1953 to commemorate Holocaust victims and to advance documentation, research and education about the Shoah. The complex has expanded over decades to include museums, archives and memorials.

Yad Vashem stands on the western slopes of Jerusalem’s Mount of Remembrance, accessible from central Jerusalem by road and public transport; it is situated near the Mount Herzl national cemetery.
