Xinghai Square

Xinghai Square is a major urban plaza and waterfront public space in the coastal city of Dalian, Liaoning province. It is one of the city’s principal civic spaces and is widely cited for its very large paved area.

The site comprises expansive paved lawns, fountains, sculptures and a seaside promenade that together form a large open area used for festivals, performances and leisure. The square is notable for its size, public events and evening lighting of fountains and pathways.

Developed as part of late 20th-century urban expansion along Dalian’s southern waterfront, the square was laid out to provide a large civic open space and integrate the city’s coastal promenade. Surrounding the plaza are parks, cultural venues and commercial developments that draw visitors.

Located on Dalian’s southern coast, the square faces the Yellow Sea and sits within the modern urban districts of the city, with good road access and nearby public transport nodes.
