Wuzhi Mountain, often called Five-Finger Mountain, is the highest peak on China’s Hainan Island and a prominent local landmark. The mountain is characterised by a group of steep summits that resemble a hand with five fingers.
The area supports montane tropical forest and is important for island biodiversity as well as for its cultural significance to the indigenous Li people. Trails and viewpoints on the mountain are used by visitors who come for short hikes and to view the distinctive skyline of peaks.
The mountain and surrounding highland are part of a protected nature reserve that conserves native forest, watershed values and endemic species of Hainan. Conservation management aims to balance visitor use with habitat protection.
Wuzhi Mountain is located near the island’s central highlands in Hainan province, inland from the island’s coastal cities; the mountain gives its name to the nearby county-level city of Wuzhishan.
