Würzburg Cathedral (Dom St. Kilian) is a large Romanesque cathedral in Würzburg, Bavaria, that serves as the seat of the Bishop of Würzburg and is a major medieval church in the city.

The building’s principal fabric dates from between the 11th and 13th centuries and displays Romanesque massing and structural elements. The interior and crypt contain episcopal tombs and ecclesiastical fittings of historical interest.

The cathedral was substantially damaged during aerial bombing in 1945 and subsequently rebuilt and restored in the postwar decades.

It is situated in central Würzburg close to the Main River and adjacent to the city’s historic core and the Würzburg Residence complex.

• Enter from Domstraße and make time for the adjacent Dommuseum (the cathedral treasure) - it contains important medieval liturgical objects many visitors overlook.
• Inside, focus on the Romanesque crypt and surviving medieval frescoes, which are less crowded than the main nave but historically significant; guided visits of the treasury or crypt often reveal details missed by self-guided visitors.
