The Wooden tserkvas of the Carpathian Region in Poland and Ukraine are a group of historic wooden Eastern Christian churches in the Carpathian foothills, inscribed for their timber architecture and liturgical interiors. The serial series comprises tserkvas representing local carpentry and religious traditions.

The sites are notable for timber log-framed construction, multi-tiered roofs, and richly decorated interiors with iconostases and polychrome painting. Visitors study regional variations in plan and roof forms and the adaptation of Orthodox and Greek Catholic liturgical space to wooden construction.

These tserkvas were built by local communities between roughly the 16th and 19th centuries and served as parish churches or village shrines. Over time many have been maintained, restored or adapted while retaining core carpentry techniques and liturgical furnishings.

The tserkvas are spread across southeastern Poland and western Ukraine in the Carpathian foothills and uplands, often in rural village settings accessible from regional towns.

From Kraków, regional buses or rental cars reach villages in 1.5-3 hours; in Ukraine, trains and minibuses (marshrutkas) connect Lviv to nearby towns. Check individual village locations before travel.

• Visit early morning when light slants across the wooden beams-interior colors appear most saturated then.
• Look for the telltale iron hoop-shaped 'anchor' fastenings and the chaulked joints where logs meet; these are clues to construction methods.
• Respect local religious services; some churches still hold parish Masses on Sundays.
