Wollemi National Park is a large protected area in New South Wales, Australia, known for rugged canyons, remote wilderness and the discovery of the rare Wollemi pine. The park conserves significant eucalypt forest, sandstone escarpments and isolated pockets of rainforest.

Hiking and multi-day bushwalking are common activities where access is permitted, with remote river gorges and cliff-top lookouts as principal attractions; visitor facilities are limited and many features require unsealed-road access and bush navigation. The park’s scale and remoteness make it important for conservation of native biodiversity and geological features.

The area gained international attention after the botanical discovery of Wollemia nobilis in 1994; management since then has balanced protection of sensitive sites with controlled scientific study and limited public interpretation. The park is managed to protect its rare species, cultural values and wilderness character.

Wollemi National Park is located inland northwest of Sydney in central New South Wales, set among the sandstone plateaus of the Great Dividing Range and neighbouring other large reserves in the region. Access is from regional roads leading away from major coastal centres toward the inland escarpments.

  • Wollemi pine: Home to the wild population of the Wollemi pine, a rare living fossil species discovered in 1994 and restricted to a few canyons within the park.
